Chandigarh: Modarna, a maker of the Covid-19 vaccine in the United States, has refused to send the vaccine directly to the Punjab government, saying it only works with the central government, a senior official said on Sunday. Bikash Gorg, Punjab Nodal Officer for Vaccines, said that all vaccine manufacturers, including Spotnik V, Pfizer, Modarna and Johnson & Johnson, were contacted directly under the direction of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. He said there had been a response from Modarna that the agency had refused to compromise with the state government. The Punjab government has issued a statement saying that according to Modarna’s policy, it is related to the Indian government, not the state government or any private party. Earlier, the chief minister directed the officials to look into the possibility of issuing a global tender for procurement of vaccines from all possible sources so that the people of the state could get vaccinated against Kovid-19 soon.
