Shimla: Narendra Bragta, a veteran Himachal Pradesh MLA and two-time former minister, died at the PGI Hospital in Chandigarh on Saturday after Kovid-19 (Kovid-19). He died of water complications. Prominent apple grower, three-time MLA Bragata was currently the party’s chief whip as the party’s cabinet minister in the legislature. He was 69 years old. On Friday, Chief Minister Joy Ram Tagore visited the hospital to inquire about his health. The legislator was hospitalized for the last 15 days after being infected with the virus on April 13. Bragta was the Minister of State for Horticulture from 1999-2002 and the Minister of Horticulture, Technical Education and Health from 2007-2002.
He was re-elected in December 2017 from Jubal-Kotkhai in Shimla district.
Braga was instrumental in setting up anti-shell guns to protect crops from hailstorms in 2010 under a central government-funded project in apple-growing areas of Shimla district. The chief minister described him as a popular leader and expressed his condolences to his family members.
