Why is the sun set to gain?

According to mythological beliefs, Surya lives with his wife Pratyusha in the evening. Therefore, in the evening of Chhath Puja, the last rays of the sun are worshiped by offering Argya to them. It is said that women who keep this fast get double benefit, those who worship the setting sun should also worship the rising sun.

Chhath Puja VidhiNirjala fast is observed on the Shishti Paksha of Kartik month. Then the Vratis go to the nearby ghats with their home-made dishes and worship materials. Make a reed house on the ghat and light a big lamp. After this, Vratis bathe in the ghat and arghya is offered to the sun while still in the water. Then go home and awake overnight meditating on the Sun God, in which ancient songs of the Sixth Mother are sung. Saptami Tithi i.e. the fourth and last day of the fast reach the ghat before the sun rises. Keep dish baskets, coconuts and fruits with you during this time. Offer water to the rising sun with reverence. Listen to the story of Chhath Vrat and distribute prasad. Finally, accept the fast and open the fast.
