Modi to lay foundation stone for drinking water projects in two districts of Uttar Pradesh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of rural drinking water supply projects in Mirzapur and Sonbhadra districts of Uttar Pradesh’s Vindhyachal region through a video conference on Sunday.
The Prime Minister will also interact with the members of the Water and Sanitation Committee of the village during the program. The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mr. Yogi Adityanath will also be present on the occasion.
With this project, all the families of 2,995 villages will be provided with water connection from the tap. This will benefit 42 lakh population of these districts. Village Water and Sanitation Committees have been formed in all these villages with responsibility for operation and maintenance on their shoulders. The total estimated cost of the project is Rs 5,555.38 crore. The projects are to be completed in twenty four months.
It is noteworthy that Shri Modi had announced Water Mission on Independence Day last year. It aims to provide tap water connection to all rural households in the country by 2024. At the time of the announcement of the mission, out of 18.93 crore rural households, only 3.23 crore families (17 percent) had tap water connections. 15.70 crore will be provided for providing tap water connection in the next four years. Despite the Kovid-19 epidemic in the last 15 months, 2.63 crore families have been provided with tap water connection.
