New Delhi: Akhil Bharatiya Chhatra Parishad (ABVP) has opposed the announcement of a new group-based district by the Pakhab government. According to the ABVP, this decision is against the spirit and values of the Constitution. The state government has the right to create new districts to provide better governance and better facilities to the people, but declaring new districts to please the people and serve political interests is unconstitutional and a move to divide society. The ABVP termed the move as shameful and said that the Punjab Chief Minister had termed it as a gift to the Muslim community in the days when it was creating a new district on a pontic basis. ABVP’s Punjab minister Kudrat Jot Kaur said, “The Punjab government is working to divide the people on the basis of religion. The state needs to bring about complete change in the health and education sectors, but the Punjab government should take care of its political interests.”
ABVP National General Secretary Nidhi Tripathi said that the Congress has always been promoting the politics of complacency. By declaring districts on communal grounds, Captain Amindar has cheated with the constitution. The district is never created by connecting one community with the majority community, but basic facilities are easily available to all citizens and quick solutions are provided based on the problem. This decision of Captain Sarkar tainted the sense of social harmony.
