Will the government be able to pass the agricultural bill in the Rajya Sabha, know who has the strength in the upper house …
new Delhi. The 3 Agriculture Bills passed in the Lok Sabha by the Central Government are being introduced in the Rajya Sabha today. The biggest challenge before the government is that it does not have a majority in the upper house and it will need the support of other parties to pass the bill.
The Congress and other opposition parties are opposing the bill. The ruling party is also facing opposition from its oldest ally Shiromani Akali Dal. In such a situation, it will not be easy to pass this bill in the House before the government.
There are currently 2 seats vacant in the Rajya Sabha with 245 members. In such a situation, the government will need at least 122 votes in the House to pass these bills. BJP is currently the largest party with 86 MPs. The AIADMK has 9 MPs and is with the government on this bill.
The government is confident that 9 of the Biju Janata Dal, 7 of TRS and 6 of YSR Congress, 1 of TDP and some independents can also support this bill.
The Congress has 40 Rajya Sabha MPs. Three Shiromani Akali Dal members will also vote against this bill. At the same time, 3 members of Aam Aadmi Party, 8 MPs of Samajwadi Party, 4 MPs of BSP will also vote against the bill. Many parties have not yet cleared their stand on the matter.
Due to the havoc of Coronavirus, 15 MPs are not participating in the proceedings of Parliament. About 10 of these corona are infected. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see how the BJP is able to defeat the opposition and pass this bill in the House.
