Galaxy Unpacked:The Samsung Galaxy S24 Series will make its debut on January 17, and it’s expected to be an important upgrade over the current flagship Galaxy models. The new phone’s noticeable feature is its improved use of artificial intelligence (AI). But that’s not the only improvement: Samsung could extend support for the Galaxy series to match its main rival, the Google Pixel series.

According to Android Headlines, Samsung is considering offering a record-breaking seven years of software support for the new Galaxy flagships. It’s not clear whether this includes security updates or full Android and One UI upgrades, but if so, it could be a historic moment in the Android world, possibly leading other phone makers to follow the example.

This move comes after Google announced in October that it would provide seven years of software and security updates for the Pixel 8 series. Samsung hints at extending security updates at the time, but did not confirm updates for Android or One UI.

The big question now is whether Samsung’s previous flagships, such as the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy Z Fold 5/Z Flip 5, will also receive extended support. As reported by SamMobile, Samsung may include its 2023 flagships in this initiative, similar to how it increased the number of Android and One UI updates for the Galaxy S21 from three to four.

According to the report, Samsung plans to provide free AI features till at least 2025. However, there are rumours that some of these features will become paid beginning in 2026. If true, this could set a new industry standard, even though the reality that Google already provides an entire set of AI features on the Pixel 8 series for free.

Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event is scheduled for January 17. Leaks about the Samsung Galaxy S24 have been going around since last year, revealing information ranging from the materials used to the AI-powered camera features. Meanwhile, Samsung is allowing users to book the Galaxy S24 ahead of its official unveiling. The ‘Next Galaxy VIPPASS’ fees Rs 1,999, and those who pre-reserve may get rewards worth Rs 5000 or more.
