Villanova enters the game with a fighting attitude, but the current champions, Huskies, were too good, winning easily with a final score of 78-54. Although Villanova used UConn’s advantage to five points with 11 minutes remaining, the Huskies came back on a 14-1 scoring run, harming the Wildcats fighting to keep up.

Villanova missed several open jumpers, but their biggest problem was their failure to get rebounds, as Huskies outrebounded them 46-32. Despite their attempts, Villanova failed to match Huskie’s rate of converts, particularly in three-point shooting and layups.

Cam Spencer was Huskie’s best performance, scoring 25 points and five three-pointers. Stephon Castle and Donovan Clingan, both possible top draft picks, added 14 and 13 points, respectively. Tristen Newton recorded a triple-double, scoring 10 points, assisting 10 times, and collecting a career-high 16 rebounds.

Eric Dixon contributed to Villanova with 20 points and seven rebounds, and T.J. Bamba had 13 points. With the loss, Villanova still has four games before the Big East Tournament, and each one is critical to their hopes in the tournament.

Villanova will have a chance to recover in their next game against Georgetown on Tuesday night.
