Big Earthquake in China :This happen on Monday night, and several people were injured, and some houses fell.The National Centre for Seismology released the information: “A 7.2 magnitude earthquake occurred on January 22, 2024, at 23:39:11 IST. It happened in Southern Xinjiang, China, at coordinates 40.96, 78.30. “The earthquake was 80 kilometres deep.”
There have been reports of deaths, and buildings collapse along the Kyrgyzstan-Xinjiang border have fallen. The Xinjiang railway authority immediately suspended trains; 27 trains were affected by the shakes.
There were 14 minor earthquakes with a magnitude of 3.0 or higher in Wushi County, China, near the epicentre. The largest one had a magnitude of 5.3 and happened around 17 km from the main earthquake.
Chinese officials responded quickly, providing tents, jackets, blankets, mattresses, folding beds, and heating stoves to the struck communities. The news agency Reuters obtained this information from Chinese sources.
In Kazakhstan, the emergency ministry stated that the same earthquake had a magnitude of 6.7. People came out of their homes in Almaty, Kazakhstan’s largest city, ignoring the cold temperatures. Some were in their jammies and sandals. About 30 minutes later, there was further shaking (aftershocks), which could also be felt in Uzbekistan. Fortunately, no deaths or property damage were reported in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
